One of the earliest planned cities in India, Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II of the ruling Rajput dynasty as his new capital. Its remarkably well-preserved heritage – which includes hilltop forts, bustling old markets, and lovely palaces – has made it a part of the golden triangle of Indian tourism.
